Broken Hill, last day!

Friday, October 22, 2010
Had planned to get of to an early start today but somehow that didn't happen! Drove 9 km out of Broken Hill to the 'Living Desert Flora & Fauna Sanctuary'.  There is also a Cultural walk & a Sculpture walk, but as we were a bit late getting out there we decided it was a bit too warm to do all of these & settled for the Flora & Fauna walk. The whole reserve is 2400ha & was commenced in 1992. The area was quite bare at the beginning & there are now quite a lot of plants, many named, pathways & extensive drip watering systems in place. I think it would have been a mass of colour a week or two ago as many of the flowers were just about finished. The only fauna we saw were two shingle backed lizards & hundreds of flies! Flies were actually so bad we used our face-nets for the first time on the trip, & they worked well!!

On the way back to town we stopped at the Pro Hart Gallery. Very interesting display of many of his artworks, including the 'Dragonfly on carpet' & a replica of his studio. Out in the two carports were 4 Rolls Royce cars, one of the painted with landscapes etc!
For more information visit http://www.prohart.com.au/ .

Returned to van for lunch, reading, blogging etc. Out later in afternoon to fuel Landcruiser & buy bits & pieces for lunch tomorrow as we have fairly long drive & not many places to stop for provisions along the way. Planning to get to Cobar but may go further if John not too tired.
